MURPHY, Gary Murphy

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Patrick Murphy of Listowel, formerly of Kitchener and Hamilton, at Listowel Memorial Hospital on July 4, 2025, following a brief illness, at the age of 78.

Beloved husband of Vivian Murphy (Kovacs) for 56 years. Devoted and loving father of Shannon Smith (Garth) of Burlington, Steven Murphy (Leslie) of Hamilton, Kenneth Murphy of Toronto, and Kelly Ferber (Rev. James) of Listowel. Proud and loving grandfather of Megan, Kaylea, Paige, Liam, Julia, Eli, Jace, Emery, Tiffany and Caleb; and great-grandfather to Clarke.

Gary was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Mabel (Robidoux) Murphy, sister Iona, and brothers Harold and Rodney. Gary retired from Stelco in Hamilton after 32 years of service.

A man of deep faith, Gary loved his family, loved Jesus, and loved Christian music. He shared his musical gifts singing and playing guitar with Pat McKenna in churches throughout Hamilton in years past. He loved to travel and see the world.

Visitation, funeral and reception will be held at Listowel Evangelical Missionary Church (1205 Tremaine Ave, Listowel) on Saturday, July 12, 2025. Visitation to take place from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. James Ferber officiating. Private interment with immediate family will take place at Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener. The service will be live-streamed. Click here to view service. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Batra, Melanie, Dr. Law, Dr. Singh, and the compassionate team of doctors, nurses, and staff on the first floor of Listowel Memorial Hospital.
