TORRIE, Myrna Marcia  –

July 10, 1939 – March 24, 2024

Our beloved mother, Myrna Marcia Torrie, passed away peacefully, on March 24, 2024.

Myrna was predeceased by her adoring husband of 57 years, Fred Torrie.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Graham (Gabi), Brian (Michelle) and Karen (Ben Freeman); her grandsons, Connor, Shane, Nathan and Micah; her nieces and nephews; extended family, many lifelong friends and her monthly musician friends.

Myrna was born on July 10, 1939 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, to William and Rita Spearns.

Having an affinity for music, Myrna began playing the piano at the age of four, and continued until her last years.

Her love of music led her to meeting our father, as the two shared a stand in band class. Myrna and Fred were married in Toronto on December 2, 1961.

In 1964, Myrna achieved her ARCT from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Myrna taught music from her home counting her three children, grandchildren and countless number of our friends and neighbours as her cherished students.

As children, we fell asleep to the lull of her piano.

To our dearest mother, “The song is ended, but the melody lingers on.”

Our mother will be resting at Adam’s Funeral Home in Barrie, Ontario, with a private funeral at a later date.
