NEIL, Judith Ann O’Neil

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Judy O’Neil, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, who passed away surrounded by family and love.

Judy was the cherished life partner of Paul Pierman, with whom she shared many years of love, laughter, and life’s journey. She was a devoted mother to Shawn O’Neil (wife Cathy O’Neil), TJ O’Neil, Derek O’Neil, and Rocky O’Neil (wife Emily O’Neil). She also held a loving place in her heart for her stepchildren, Paula Fillmore (husband Darryl Fillmore) and Brad Pierman (wife Sherri Pierman), who became part of her family through love and choice.

Judy was a proud and joyful grandmother to Austin Printess, Madison Fillmore, Grace Koski, Mitchell Fillmore, Deven O’Neil, Maggie Fillmore, Jaden O’Neil, Laake O’Neil, Lily O’Neil, Cailin O’Neil, and Noah James O’Neil. Her heart was especially full with the arrival of her great-granddaughter, Hayden Lily Printess, who brought her endless joy in recent months.

Born to the late June and James Varcoe, Judy was one of five siblings. She is predeceased by her sister Joanne Miller (née Varcoe) and her brother Jimmy Varcoe. She is lovingly remembered by her brothers Rockford Varcoe (wife Claudie Varcoe) and Robert Varcoe.

Judy was also an amazing Auntie to Amanda Farquhar, and great-aunt to Liam Farquhar, Owen Farquhar and Jack Varcoe who will remember her warmth, wit, fierce protectiveness and unwavering kindness.

Throughout her life, Judy was blessed with the love and loyalty of her best friend, Debbie Hayes. Their lifelong friendship was a source of joy, support, and sisterhood in every way that mattered.

She will be missed and loved by countless nieces and nephews.

Judy deeply valued time spent with friends and community, especially her treasured weekly gatherings with “the A Group” at the Esquire Club — a tradition filled with laughter, camaraderie, and stories shared over many years. These moments were a highlight of her week and reflected her love for connection and good company.

Judy was the glue of the family — the one who held everyone together with love, loyalty, and a fierce sense of devotion. She always thought of others before herself, offering kindness and support without hesitation. Endlessly full of life, she had a remarkable way of staying positive, even in the face of life’s challenges. Her optimism, humour, and heart were unmatched.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

In honour of Judy’s generous and compassionate spirit, donations can be made to ARCH Hospice in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, an organization close to the family’s heart (payable online or by cheque).
