
In Loving Memory
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ann Nekkers (née Fernandez), who left us peacefully on March 17, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on January 17th, 1949, Ann was known for her incredible strength and warm spirit.
Ann grew up one of seven children, including her triplet siblings. She shared a close bond with her brothers and sisters who were constant companions and close friends throughout her life.
Ann was a devoted and caring mother who supported her children no matter what. Her unwavering love and encouragement were the foundation of their lives.
Ann was also an amazing grandmother. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, creating lasting memories and imparting wisdom and love. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She had an incredible ability to listen and a knack for turning ordinary moments into extraordinary adventures. From baking cookies to spending Wednesdays together, Ann’s presence was a source of joy and comfort for her grandchildren. She took great delight in their achievements and was their biggest cheerleader, always offering a warm hug and wise advice.
Ann is survived by her loving family, including her husband of 55 years, Peter; her daughter Jennifer (Todd); her son Chris (Laura); and her cherished grandchildren, Evan, Vanessa, and Xavier. We were so blessed to have her in our lives. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unforgettable memories.
Ann’s love for cooking and entertaining was evident to all who knew her. She had a unique talent for bringing people together, filling her home with laughter, delicious food, and cherished memories. Her culinary skills and generous hospitality will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of experiencing them.
Ann had an eye for beauty and decorating, which led her to own a Color Your World paint store for many years. Her talent for creating beautiful spaces brought joy to many, and her business was a testament to her creativity and entrepreneurial spirit.
Ann was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Courtice. She was an active member of her church community and worked as the manager of St. Vincent de Paul in Oshawa for many years. Her faith provided her with strength and comfort throughout her life, and she was deeply committed to helping those in need through her work.
Ann was outgoing and friendly, maintaining close friendships with her high school friends throughout her life. Her sociable nature and lasting relationships were a testament to her warmth and genuine care for others.
She faced all of her life’s challenges with remarkable courage, battling cancer many times with unwavering determination and grace. Her resilience and positive outlook were an inspiration to everyone around her.
During her final journey, Peter was by her side, just as he had always been. His love never wavered, and he remained her rock, caring for her through every challenge. In her time in hospice, he never left her, holding her hand, comforting her, and ensuring she felt the love she had given so freely throughout her life.
Family and friends will be received at Mount Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, 21 Garrard Road, Whitby (North of Hwy 2) 647-692-1454 on Sunday, March 23, 2025 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. A celebration of Ann’s life will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025 at 11 am in St. Therese Catholic Church, Courtice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ann’s memory to Oak Ridges Hospice (Port Perry) or St. Vincent de Paul.
Ann’s light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
