Predeceased by his parents Mona Costain Newell and John Fraser Newell, his brother Ted Newell, and two nephews Bob and Randy Newell.Survived by his wife Joan Atkinson, two daughters Lauraine Armstrong (Terry), Marguerite (Jay), and his nephew Brian Newell.David attended Riverdale Collegiate, and was a graduate of Ryerson Institute of Technology in Journalism.
He was a Junior Ranger and spent a summer on Tower Duty for the Ministry of Lands and Forests at Chapleau. He was on the editorial staff of local newspapers in Brampton, Kapuskasing, Timmins, and Slough England.

He was a long time employee of Wadham Publications working on “Stationary Engineer”, “Insurance Underwriter”, and “Motor Truck”.He served on local council prior to the forming of the expanded Municipality of Ajax.He was a past Commander of the Ajax Power Squadron and a member of the Whitby Yacht Club.
The family will receive friends at the McEachnie Funeral Home, 28 Old Kingston Road, Pickering Village (Ajax) on Saturday June 28th from 1pm to 2pm. A Memorial Service will follow in the chapel at 2pm.
After the service, everyone is invited to join the family for a reception at the McEachnie Funeral Home Family Centre.  Please RSVP to gen.atkinson45@gmail.com to facilitate the catering.In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Humane Society
