Mikhail Nikitsenka, born on April 25, 1949, in Belarus, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, at Margaret Bahen Hospice, surrounded by his loving family. A distinguished figure in economics and global finance, Mikhail served as the deputy director of the Institute of Economics at the Academy of Science in Belarus, worked with the United Nations, and had a prolific career with the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

Mikhail was also a gifted artist and a passionate member of the Society of York Region Artists (SOYRA). He found joy in nature, cherished birch trees, and often spoke of the magic of pines. His stories were filled with passion and warmth, leaving lasting impressions on all who knew him. An avid fisherman and skier, Mikhail embraced life with a spirit of adventure.

Mikhail is survived by his loving wife, Maria Nikitsenka, and his children: sons Dzmitry, daughters Aliona and Dasha, and stepson Artiom. He was a cherished grandfather to Vlad, Alex, Christina, Angelina, and Daniela. He was predeceased by his parents, Victor and Alexandra, and his brother Vasiliy.

A funeral service to honor Mikhail’s life will be held on December 19, 2024, at Forrest & Taylor Funeral Home in Sutton, Ontario, beginning at 12:00 PM. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Briar Hill Cemetery in Georgina, Ontario, at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mikhail Nikitsenka’s name to the Margaret Bahen Hospice. Mikhail will be deeply missed, and his legacy of love, wisdom, and kindness will forever be cherished.
