Miyata NoriyeMIYATA, Noriye (Nora)  –  The family of Noriye (Nora) Miyata is heartbroken to announce her peaceful passing in her 93rd year, on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.

 

Beloved wife of the late Hisashi Bud (2012) and predeceased by her mother, Sonoko Suyama (2009), and father, Katsutaro Suyama (1955).

 

Survived by sister, Carol Kawamoto. Loving mother to Lesley (Joan), Patricia (Richard Kolesar), Russell (Eileen) and Martin (Alice). Grandma to Laura (Jesse Weeks), Kristen (Jesse Kierstead), Michael, Emma and Angeline.

 

Great-grandma to Lincoln, Declan, JJ, Joseph, Kiyoko and Jacob.

 

Born in 1931 in Woodfibre, BC, she was uprooted and interned with her family in Kaslo, BC, during WWII. The family relocated to Hamilton, Ontario after the war. Nora was the glue of our family.

 

She was a homemaker who raised four children and taught the family values of honesty and respect. When her children were in their teens, Nora worked at Simpsons, and later in the offices of CML Labs.

 

She was an avid Blue Jays fan and enjoyed her daily walks with her Golden Retriever, Amber.

 

Nora enjoyed good health and independence until she experienced a critical illness in 2023, from which she never fully recovered.

 

A very special thank you to Nora’s friend and neighbour, Sharon, for her weekly engaging hospital visits with Nora.

 

The family is grateful for the compassionate care provided by the Complex Continuing Care Team at St. Joseph’s. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Monday, February 26th, from 12-1:30 p.m., at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, William J. Markey Chapel, 947 Rymal Rd. E., Hamilton.

 

A private inurnment, for immediate family only, will follow.
