BURNS, Norma Elizabeth Burns
BURNS, Norma Elizabeth (nee GREGORY) – In her 99th year, passed away peacefully, June 7, 2023, in Kingston, Ontario.
Predeceased by her loving husband, Neil (1999).
Much-loved mother and mother-in-law of Mary, Barb and Andy, Sheila, Neil and Dee.
Dear grandmother of Jamie (deceased) (Jacqueline), Shane (Lindsay), Danielle, Jennifer (Colin), Cody and Kelly. Great-grandmother of Jackson, Lincoln and Ziggy. Mom was born and raised in Toronto. Raised as an only child, she was determined to have at least two children.
She ended up with four. Mom graduated from University of Toronto and married Dad in 1946. Mom was the breadwinner while Dad had his turn attending university. Her employment at the university library was the start of her lifelong interest in library work. She received her degree in Library Science at University of Ottawa, while raising four children and enjoyed a long career as a research librarian.
Good manners and good values were lessons that Mom instilled in us. Mom was an excellent seamstress and keen shopper and was always fashionably dressed. She and Dad were part of a group of eight lifelong friends. Mom outlived all of them. Unfortunately, dementia stole Mom from us long before she took her last breath. Her world became so much smaller. And ours is smaller without her.
Rest in peace, Mom.
Cremation has taken place. Interment in July, at Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa.
