HARGREAVES, Norma Frances Hargreaves

Hargreaves NormaHARGREAVES, Norma Frances (nee GENGE)   –  Norma Frances (Genge) Hargreaves died peacefully, in Kingston, Ontario, on June 25, 2023.

 

The steadfast light and warm heart of her family, Norma was also a respected Registered Nurse and volunteer, and a much-loved friend.

 

Born in Smith Falls, Ontario, on September 19, 1933, Norma grew up in Westport, Ontario.

 

Always at or near the top of her class, Norma also studied classical piano through the Royal Ontario Conservatory of Music.

 

Her parents Blanche (Bauder) and Percival Genge, and brothers, Bernard (Bud), James (Jim); and cousin, Walter “Gus” Layfield, predeceased her.

 

A graduate of Kingston General Hospital (KGH) School of Nursing (1955), Norma worked in neonatal care and medical clinics in Kingston, Ontario and Halifax, Nova Scotia. Norma’s beloved husband of 60 years, J.W. Douglas Hargreaves, predeceased her in 2016.

 

Doug was a central figure in Canadian university football, and Norma was his solid rock and number one football fan. Norma was loved for her kind and generous nature, her inquisitive mind, and her devotion to family.

 

Norma is survived by her daughters, Vicki, Gayle (spouse, Peter Muir) and Lynn Hargreaves; cherished grandsons, Jeremiah Bach (spouse, Hannah Peck) and Eli Bach (spouse, Ginny Kozemczak), their father, Michael Bach; Alexander Muir (spouse, Li Xiaowei – Vivienne) and Peter Gordon Muir; great-grandchildren, Evan, Chloe and Marcus Muir; sister-in-law, Judy Hargreaves; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

 

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held in Westport, Ontario, on July 29th. Details will be announced at a later date.

 

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, or charity of your choice.
