CROMIE, Norman Herbert Cromie
CROMIE, Norman Herbert Cromie – Died July 8, 2023, at the age of 88, having been predeceased by his four brothers and one sister.
After a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s, Norman finally succumbed to the dreadful disease and is now at peace.
His family is thankful that Norman’s suffering has come to an end. Norman emigrated from County Down, Northern Ireland, at the age of 22, arriving in Vancouver in 1956 and taking up an opportunity with the Bank of Commerce.
He enjoyed the camaraderie of working on the audit in his early years, which involved travels across Western Canada, where he met his wife to be, Robin.
In 1968, Norman transferred to Toronto, where he and Robin moved into what is still the family home of 55 years, raising their two sons, Shaun and Bruce.
At the bank, he joined their fledgling Chargex (now Visa) program in Canada, where he eventually became an integral part of the executive team serving on several international steering committees.
He retired in 1990. Norman enjoyed his family, tennis, reading, and more than anything, travelling.
He especially loved travelling to Australia to visit and care for his grandsons. Norman is survived by his wife, Robin; sons, Shaun (Sancha), and Bruce (Heather); and grandchildren, Martin, Lachlan, and Sarah. Norman and Robin would have shortly celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.
Cremation has taken place and as per Norman’s wishes, there will be no service.
The family asks that you consider a donation in Norman’s memory be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
