O’BRIEN, Luke Joseph O’Brien
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Luke Joseph O’Brien on December 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Dublin, Ireland, Luke immigrated to Canada in 1954 with his beloved wife, Mary. Together, they built a beautiful life and a loving family of seven children, became “Papa” to twenty grandchildren, and welcomed eleven great-grandchildren.

Adored father of Nano Drewitt (Chuck), predeceased Michael O’Brien (Debbie), Siobhan Gabura (Jeff), Mary-Jo Mulholland (Mark), Luke O’Brien (Maria-Pia), Fiona Swanek (Wayne), and Tara Drover (Jeff). Devoted Papa to Siobhan, Kyle, Ciara, Niall, Travis, Luke, Alexandra, Sarah, Kevin, Shannon, Ashleigh, Olivia, Braeden, Conlan, Bridget, Liam, Neve, Kieran, Connor and Ava Grace. Loving great-Papa Luke to Mila, Avery, Elle, Emmy, Blake, Leah, Isla, Abigail, Quinn, Rory and Theodore. Son of the late Peter and Josephine O’Brien of Dublin, Ireland. Brother to John O’Brien (Gonnie), and predeceased by Nano, Michael (Grace), and Peter (Iris). Cherished Uncle to many nieces and nephews in Canada, Ireland, and England.

For 45 years, Luke built his career with CIBC, moving to small towns across Ontario and embracing each new community with his wife and children. Outside of work, he found joy in life’s simple pleasures—family gatherings, camping at Killbear Park, winters in sunny Destin, Florida, the beauty of classical music, and living by the water. Above all, spending time with loved ones and hearing all their stories gave Dad his greatest happiness. He lived as a true example of kindness and love, and carried himself with grace, respect and dignity. Luke leaves behind a deep legacy rooted in faith and family. His life was a blessing, and as we say goodbye, we celebrate his remarkable spirit and the joy he brought to everyone who knew him.
