WORRELL, Olga E.–   December 21, 1925 – October 7, 2015

Olga died peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 in her 90th year.

She is lovingly remembered by her family in Canada, Barbados and Bahamas; among whom are Evone and Kim Rudder, Charles Worrell and Norma Headley.

Olga had a regal bearing, was warm and caring, had a beautiful smile that could light up a room and an infectious sense of humour.

She will be fondly remembered by many friends, especially John and Patty Wedge, Mary and Robert Lee, Janet Forbes, Shirley Jones, Shirley Drayton, Ruth Herridge and many others for whom she cared deeply. Olga faithfully served at The Hospital for Sick Children for 35 years and was Head Nurse on both E.N.T. and Orthopaedic wards.

She continued to volunteer in the Orthopaedic clinic for many years following her retirement. Olga established long-term relationships with children and their families wherever they were from, particularly those supported by the Herbie Fund who came to SickKids from many countries for surgery not otherwise available to them.

She sustained correspondence with many of them until her death. She was also an active and prominent member of the local Barbadian Community. Olga was deeply spiritual and her faith shaped her unfailingly positive and optimistic outlook. She enjoyed her garden, which was a source of great pride and joy and making preserves, which she generously shared. Her red pepper jelly was a perennial favorite at the annual SickKids Women’s Auxiliary bake sale.

Many thanks to the wonderful team of PSWs and others who tenderly and respectfully cared for her in her home, to Dr. Matthew Cheung of the Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook and Dr. Claudio Borgono, her Family Physician.

A memorial service will be held at GRACE CHURCH ON-THE-HILL, 300 Lonsdale Road, Toronto, on Thursday, November 5th at 11 a.m. Reception to follow.

Donations may be made in her memory to The Hospital for Sick Children or St. Elizabeth Nurses Foundation. “Made a difference for good in the lives of many people”.
