It is with broken hearts that we inform you of the passing of James Fraser O’Neill on December 14, 2024, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sydney, NS, in 1957, Jim was the much-loved son of Mary (Snookie) O’Neill and the late James Fraser O’Neill Sr.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife Harla, daughters Sara (Tim Shanks) and Allison (Mitch Martin) O’Neill, and his cherished grandchildren Benjamin, Evelyn, and Natalie. Jim loved his daughters and granddaughters unconditionally, and his special bond with Benjamin, his “best friend,” will be fondly remembered. He also leaves behind his mother, Snookie, and siblings Mona (Francis MacDonald), Kelly (Paul Tobin), Barbie (Gerry Bennett), Clary (Darlene), and Shaun Pat (Diana), as well as his chosen brother, Uncle Eddy Moules.
Jim was predeceased by his father, James Fraser Sr.; in-laws Jeanne and Kenny McKillop; and siblings-in-law Peggy and Richard Goulden, and Jimmy McKillop. He will be deeply missed by his wife’s siblings Kathy MacLeod, Jamey Gagne, and Gordon (Relic) McKillop, along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, golfing buddies, and work associates.
Jim enjoyed a fulfilling career with London Life (now Canada Life), contributing to various positions and forging lifelong friendships. A past president of the Glace Bay Rotary Club, he was passionate about golf and coached boys’ hockey for 10 years in Ontario, leaving a positive impact on the young players.
Cremation has taken place as per Jim’s request, with arrangements entrusted to Harris Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at West Haven Golf Course, 7038 Egremont Drive, London, ON, on January 11, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, with words of remembrance at 3:00 PM. Jim will be laid to rest in Nova Scotia later in the year.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jim may be made to the Children’s Health Foundation (paediatric cancer) or a charity of your choice.
You will be missed, Jim, and loved forever. Godspeed.
