OVERGOOR, Gerardus Hermanus Overgoor

Passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on January 5, 2026, at the age of 95, after a long and wonderful life.

He was the beloved son of the late Hendrika and Jacobus Overgoor. Dear brother of Ann Overgoor. Gerard was the second eldest of 8 siblings and was predeceased by Bernard, Frank, Jack, Wilhelmina Pennings (Henk), Mary Holy, Margaret Potocnik (Peter). He will be fondly remembered by To Overgoor and Dolph Holy, as well as by his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Born in the Netherlands to a large family, Gerard began work as a butcher. He and his brother Ben immigrated to Canada in 1956, followed by their parents and siblings in 1957. Gerard worked at General Motors after settling in Canada and retired after 30 years of service. He and his brother Frank purchased a farm in Port Perry and they devoted much of their lives to farming.

Gerard had a deep love of travel. Every other year, he returned to the Netherlands for six weeks to visit family, and he also enjoyed traveling throughout Europe. Above all, family was his greatest passion, and he treasured time spent with loved ones.

The family invites friends and relatives to celebrate Gerard’s life. Visitation will be held at Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa on Friday January 9th from 6pm to 8pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, 194 Simcoe Street North, Oshawa on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 10:30 a.m.

Followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
