PAKOZDI, Eleanor Marie Pakozdi
June 10, 1947 - June 25, 2025
Eleanor Marie Pakozdi passed away on June 25th, 2025 at Welland County Hospital, at the age of 78 years.
She is survived by her sisters Elizabeth Knisley and Priscilla Pakozdi, both of Port Colborne. She was predeceased by her father, James Pakozdi (1982) and her mother Emily Pakozdi (1996).
Eleanor was born in Port Colborne on June 10th, 1947. She attended Bethel Public School and Port Colborne High School. She spent her entire business career in Toronto. In the early 1980s she joined the staff of Toronto General Hospital and spent many years working with Dr. Gary Webb, Chief Cardiologist, on staff. When she retired and returned to Port Colborne, she continued to work with the cardiology department, as well as ‘Fellows’ enrolled in the training program.
In 1953, when the polio epidemic swept through Ontario, she was one of the patients and survivors, with a handicap that would affect the rest of her life. She did not embrace the ‘poor me’ theory and was very forward-looking. She was an extremely well-read and knowledgeable person. She enjoyed crosswords, was an avid tennis and golf tournaments fan, as well as The Leafs and the Blue Jays, ‘when they were serious about the game.’
The family will receive visitors at the Davidson Funeral Home, 135 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Sunday, June 29th from 2–4 p.m. The funeral will be held, in the chapel, Monday, June 29th, at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow in Overholt Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The War Amps Society of Ontario.
