GOMBOLA, Pauline Lena Gombola – Obituary
GOMBOLA, Pauline Lena – age 96 years, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 9, 2015 in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre with her family by her side.
Pauline was born in Fort William on July 14, 1919 to Anthony and Caroline Zazulak.
She attended local schools, before going to work for Can-Car. This is where she met the love of her life, John Gombola.
They were married in 1944 and together raised their two sons, Gordon and Robert. Following the war, Pauline worked in the family corner store and at the Westfort Co-Op.
Pauline and John built their home on Euclid Avenue in 1955, in which Pauline still resided. As a family, they spent many happy hours at the camp which John built at Sunset Lake. In her 40’s, Pauline went back to school and received her education to become an RNA. She loved her work and spent many years at McKellar HospitaL
Pauline is survived by her sons Gordon (Colleen) and Robert (Patricia); grandchildren Richard (Terri), Robert, Debbie MacArthur and Shannon (Cosimo) Racco; great grandchildren Austin and Taylor Gombola and Owen MacArthur. Nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives also survive.
She was predeceased by her husband, John; her parents and three siblings, Steve, Jean and Harry.
Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Paulina Gombola will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 10:30 AM in the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James, officiated by Deacon Armand Danis. A private family interment will take place. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Pauline to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
