PEETERS , Louw Peeters

Aloysius Joseph “Louw” Peeters passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, at St. Marys Memorial Hospital at the age of 91. Born on March 15, 1934, in St. Antonis, Southern Holland, Louw was the second youngest of eight siblings. His early years were shaped by WWII, a time that deeply influenced his lifelong values of resilience, humor, and compassion.

Louw served in the Dutch army as a cook and was known for his boxing skills. He developed a love for horticulture and later founded Peeters Enterprises, specializing in gladiolus hybridization. In 1958, he married Nelly Verberk and together they raised three children: Twan (Wendy), Karin McDougall (Jamie Wright), and Nieko (Michelle).

After immigrating to Canada in 1973, Louw and Nelly farmed in Monkton, Mount Forest, and Carlingford. Even in retirement, he remained passionate about flowers and won awards for his hybrids. He served on the founding board of Windmill Gardens in Stratford.

Louw is survived by his beloved grandchildren: Tammy, Laura (Adam), Amanda (Jessie), Sarah, Darren, Nicholas, Oliver, and Noah; and great-grandchildren: Alexis, Makayla, Cassidy, Korrik, Dannika, Luther, and River. He was predeceased by his siblings and is lovingly remembered by his surviving brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Riet.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 12:00 pm, with visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Luncheon to follow in the Parish Hall.

Donations in Louw’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society through W.G. Young Funeral Home.
