WELLS, Peter Wells
WELLS, Peter Wells – Peter died suddenly in Sunnybrook Hospital on October 25, 2023, at the age of 79, due to a cumulation of multiple health issues.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Brenda Bolton; his sister, Rosalind Wells; his niece and nephew, Suzie and Peter Leathley; his nephew’s children, Gemma and Seamus; and all our loving neighbours, relatives and friends in many countries.
Born and raised in Gateshead, England, a place he made sure everyone heard about, he emigrated to Canada in 1970, where he taught mathematics and computer science at Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute.
An active sportsman, he coached badminton, tennis and skiing, for years running the Toronto High School cross-country ski meets. Sailed in summer around Lake Ontario and cycled in Europe.
He was passionate about fishing and an avid skier. Peter was a very special man, husband, teacher and friend to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He loved people and could talk to anyone, charming them with his wide knowledge and his wonderful British sense of humour.
Inveterate traveler, he, with his wife, Brenda, travelled the world, seizing every opportunity to go somewhere new, twice taking a year off with round-the-world tickets.
As much as he loved to see new vistas and have new experiences, the people he met on his travels were always more important than the sights.
He had a way of putting people at ease and, to the last day of his life, maintained his cheerful outlook.
A Celebration of Life for Peter will be held on November 29, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Clement’s Church, 70 St. Clements Avenue (Duplex Entrance). Reception following at the church.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Salvation Army or a Charity of Your Choice.
