PETTY , Richard “Dick” Petty

It is with a heavy heart that we the family announce the peaceful passing of Dick Petty at the Kingston General Hospital.

Dick will be missed by his wife of 68 years, Marion (Tune), and his children Mark and Gaye (Wayne) Muir. Dick was very proud of his grandsons, Justin (Kirby), Darryl (Sarah), Tyler (Ashley) Zylstra, along with his nine great-grandchildren. He rarely missed one of their hockey games, and many will remember him for the smell of his pipe.

Dick is survived by his sister Brenda Lesage, Aunt Norma Hureau, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Cicely Petty, sister Joan Gerhing, his granddaughter Laura Zylstra, and many other family members and friends.

In his younger years, Dick was the local paper boy in Burford and later became a bank manager with the Dominion Bank of Canada. He attended university and graduated with an Accounting Degree.

He had a deep love for antique cars, especially Studebakers, which led him to leave his job and buy a machine shop that he moved to his farm in Harley. For over 20 years, Dick owned and operated Champ Babbitt Bearing.

Dick was a lifelong member of the Historical Automobile Society of Canada (Rideau Valley and Long Point Regions), where he served as the National Treasurer for decades.
