PHILLIPS, Beryl Una Phillips

Passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, on Friday, October 17, 2025, in her 93rd year.

Beryl was born in Portsmouth, England to Charles and Alice Harvey and she had six siblings, Charles, Robert, Doris, Constance, Lawrence (Laurie) and Steven (Stevie), all of whom predeceased her.

After graduating from secondary school in England, Beryl became a Registered Nurse and in the early 1950’s Beryl left England to accept a nursing position in New York City at Mount Sinai Hospital. It was in New York City, in 1955, when Beryl met her future husband Gordon Phillips who was on leave from the British merchant navy.

Gordon and Beryl married in 1961 and were married for 49 years, until Gordon’s passing, and have four sons, Andrew, Alexander, James, and Matthew.

In 1968 the family emigrated to Canada when Gordon accepted a position with Ontario Hydro.

Beryl was always a very happy person who made friends easily and would say hello and strike up conversations with strangers wherever she might be. She was very particular about her appearance and a few weeks before her passing insisted on her regular manicure and specified that her fingernails had to be painted Apple Red. She was a particularly loving person towards her family, a devoted wife, mother, Nana and sister. Beryl was never one to complain about anything and appreciated each day that was given to her.

Beryl leaves her sons, their wives, Lina, Lourdes, Carolyn and Cathy-Lynn and she was a wonderful Nana to her grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Melissa, Sarah, Jeremy, Peter, Mark, Ben and Katie.

Pursuant to Beryl’s wishes, cremation has occurred, and a private internment will occur at a later date.
