PICARDO, David German Villarroel Picardo

Passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025.
He will be greatly missed by children John (Jill) and Patricia (Brian) and grandchildren Georgia, Cameron, Norah and Liam. He had five younger sisters and is survived by sisters Cathy Holman (John), Elsie Ettinger (Philip), Evelyn Deale (Sonny) and Anne Hines. The family sadly lost sister Margaret (Geoff) in 2020.

Bill was born in 1944 to John and Jane Dechman, in Musquodoboit, NS. He completed a chemistry degree at Mount Allison university and worked for Alcon in Arvida, QC for a number of years. He spent two years teaching science in Ghana with the Canadian University Service Overseas (CUSO), where he met his future wife, Terry. They both continued on to St. John’s, Newfoundland and completed their education degrees at Memorial University.

Bill taught science at Gander Collegiate for most of his career, and continued teaching off and on through retirement, including with the College of the North Atlantic. He made many close friends during his years in Newfoundland, from St. John’s, Lewisporte and Gander, who became like family over the years. He loved to play cards, fish, garden and read.

In 2022, Bill and Terry relocated to Ottawa to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Sadly, Terry passed away in July of that year.
Friends are invited to Pinecrest Remembrance Services, 2500 Baseline Road, on Friday, October 17 from 2-4pm, with words of remembrance at 3pm.
