PITRE, Thérèse Pitre

At St Joseph Continuing Care Centre on Thursday, November 20th at the age of 93. Thérèse was the youngest and last surviving child of Eusebe Pitre and Rachelle née Doré. Predeceased by her sisters, Yvette (Lawrence) Snyder, Georgette (Wilfrid) Lauzon, Fleurette (Arcade) Brunet, her brothers Emile (Viviane) Pitre, Jean-Marie (Lucille) Pitre, and Charles Pitre. “Ma tante Thérèse” is also survived by many nieces and nephews including her caregivers for the last five years, Gerald and Anna Snyder, as well as her only godchild, Teal (Brunet) Markell. She lived most of her life in the Niagara Region, teaching math and english at Ecole secondary Confédération in Welland. She was the favourite teacher to many who nicknamed her STP, a mentor to students, some who followed her into the teaching profession and became colleagues and friends. She became travel companions to many of these same people. She loved to travel which she did until the age of 88. Her last trip being a cruise up the coast of Norway. She was always ready no matter how short notice the invitation was. She loved animals, theatre and sports, golfing into her early 80’s. She previously also enjoyed playing tennis, skiing downhill, cross country skiing and swimming. There wasn’t any sport she wouldn’t follow on TV. She was a gentle soul, a kind and generous person. Thérèse had a great smile, an infectious laugh, a great sense of humour and a twinkle in her eye. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched, which were many. The family wishes to acknowledge, with sincere gratitude and thanks for the care provided to Thérèse by the staff of St Joseph’s Villa, as well as the Aquatria Retirement Residence in Casselman and their staff.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Francis de Sales Church on December 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Family will receive guests from 10:00 a.m.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home, 822 Pitt Street, Cornwall.
