POLAK, Milos Polak
December 9, 2025
Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at WRHN – Midtown at the age of 93.
Milos will be dearly remembered by his family in the Czech Republic, mainly his brother Zdenek and nephew Dr. Petr Polak.
Also remembered by the family of his partner in life for the past 20 years, Fumiyo (2025), in Japan.
Will always be loved and his memory will be cherished by his former wife, Eliska – You will always be with me.
Milos was born in Czechoslovakia in 1932. He got his degree in Economics at Charles University in Prague.
After the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in August 1968 and while on a vacation and playing international bridge tournaments in Europe, he decided not to return home and immigrated to Canada with his wife, Eliska.
He was always a great sportsman in body and spirit, and excelled in many sports as a young man. Later in life in Canada, he was very passionate about golf, enjoying many rounds with his friends.
Milos was a Grand Master Bridge player whose love for the game touched everyone around him. As a proud member of the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), he represented both the Czech and Canadian National Bridge Teams, creating lifelong friendships and memories along the way.
In 1977, he founded “Learn to Play Bridge”, a program that opened the door for countless people to discover the joy of the game.
Teaching was one of his greatest gifts, and he poured that same warmth and patience into the many books he wrote for beginner and intermediate players. His passion for bridge – and his belief in sharing it with others – left a lasting legacy in the community he cared for so deeply.
Goodbye may seem forever. Farewell is like the end,
but in my heart is the memory, and there you will always remain.
