PORT, Elizabeth Port

Elizabeth passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, at the age of 89 years. She was born in Eger, Hungary to Erzsebet and Sandor Magyari. She fled Hungary at age 20 during the Soviet invasion crossing the Austrian border and then immigrated to Canada.

She worked odd jobs to cover room and board, then at the Hotel Vancouver which provided enough income for her first apartment. She met her husband, Robert, at an Italian dinner dance party and were happily married for 60 years. She loved and was proud of her family in Hungary and Canada and her greatest joy was knowing her children were happy.

She worked in women’s fashion and jewellery and co-owned The Sign of the Fish Christian Bookstore. She attended many Women of Faith conferences with her dear friend Lois and was a devoted follower of Christ.

Elizabeth is predeceased by her husband, Robert, sister-in-law Irene and brother-in-law Andy. Survived by her sister Rozsa, brother Sandor (Iren), sister-in-law Antoinetta and brother-in-law Dick.
She was the beloved mother to John (Darci), Teresa (Jimbo) and David (Leanne), grandmother to Tristan, Chayla and Noah, and aunt to Sam, Raymond, Erika, Aniko and Marianna.

The last year and a half of her life was spent as a resident of Sluggett House, where she received exceptional care and support from the amazing staff. Thanks to the doctors, nurses, caregivers, volunteers and staff for their sincere care and making her stay feel like a home.

A celebration of life will be held in January.
