It is with great sadness that the family of Susan Marie Prentice, a.k.a. “Grama Sue” announces her passing on July 21st, 2025 at the age of 68. Sue spent her final days at Lakeridge Health Oshawa fighting her second battle with Lymphoma Cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones, family and friends during her final days here on earth. As she prepared to leave us and go to heaven we played her favourite songs, we sang to her and in true Sue fashion she entered heaven dancing. She sure did love to dance.
Sue was born on September 6th, 1956 to the late Earl and June (Martin) Kett in Orillia, Ontario.
Sue was predeceased by her Husband Wally and later loved by Howie Chapman until the end of life.
Sue will be greatly missed by her daughters Christie (Mark) Morissette and Tara (Dennis) Byrom and her four Grandchildren Conner, JulieAnn, Travis and Megan, Also Morgan and Stephen and the late Gran (Joan Batten) are forever in her heart.
She leaves behind her 3 siblings and their spouses, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and countless other loved ones.
And of course we can’t forget Ted 🐾, he will miss Sue deeply but keep Howie company in the upcoming years.
Sue was known for her warmth, generosity and caring nature. You could always count on Sue to be there when needed. And that smile, it would light up a room and then it wouldn’t be long before you would hear her laughter. Even her nurses commented on her sense of humour and laugh. In her hardest days at the end of her life she made us all laugh and smile.
Her love for the many children she helped raise during her years as a home childcare provider is proven by the lifelong friendships she still had with so many of those families. They became a part of her extended family and that will never change.
Sue was also an organizer, she had lists, calendars and notes everywhere. Right up until her final days she made sure everything was in order, even planning her own funeral from her hospital bed to be sure no detail was forgotten and the job was checked off her to-do list.
We can’t forget about Sue’s creative nature. She loved to sew, bake, decorate and craft. From designing and making her girls childhood Halloween Costumes to hand sewing their wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses, baking and decorating her grandchildren’s birthday cakes and the endless amount of craft sales she participated in over the years.
In more recent years Sue had the chance to travel the world. She saw sights and scenery that most just dream about. She also developed new skills during her final years as an avid 10-pin Bowler and Lawn Bowler. The friendships formed through these organizations were valuable and genuine.
Special thanks go out to the ones who stepped up and helped care for Sue in her final days of life. Teresa, Barb, Nancy J, Darlene, Joanne, Colleen and Nancy H. All of the nursing staff and doctors at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on 4F and 6C and especially her nurse Maritez. We can’t thank you enough for your care and compassion.
A celebration of life will be held on August 21st, 2025 from 4pm-7pm at Oshawa Funeral Home at 847 King Street West, (905-721-1234). There we will take the time to share memories and connect with friends and family all while celebrating Sue’s life.
Sue will be laid to rest with Wally at the Emmanuel Cemetery at 199 Church Road, Maynooth, Ontario at a later date to be determined.
