PRICE, Miriam Jean Price

With deep sadness, after a long journey with Alzheimer’s and a recent hospital stay, we announce the passing of Miriam (nee Peel) of Port Perry, aged 93, at the Oak Ridges Hospice. Miriam is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Laurel Price of Port Perry and Paula Price of Lillooet, BC. She was predeceased by her eldest daughter, Orene Price. Miriam adored her grandson, Aidan Nugent, and he treasured every moment with his beloved “GrMa” whose love will stay with him forever. Her brother Paul Peel of Drayton mourns her loss deeply along with many nieces and nephews. Miriam was predeceased by her sister, Helen Peel.

Born and raised in Port Perry, Miriam was a lifelong pillar of the community, apart from her university years at the University of Guelph (MAC Class of ’54) and her final academic year at UBC. As owner of The Pink Dot clothing store, she mentored many young women and played an active role in Port Perry’s business and social spheres for decades. She shared a close bond with longtime employee and cherished “bonus daughter,” Cheryl Romeril. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Susanne and Belinda for their years of support and especially to Trish Piercey, whose devoted care and companionship was truly exceptional. Gratitude also to the Alzheimer Society Durham Region for their enduring support, and to Oak Ridges Hospice for providing compassionate end-of-life care.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Miriam Price at the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (905-985-2171) on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 2 – 4 p.m. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Oak Ridges Hospice or Alzheimer Society Durham Region. Memories, photos and condolences may be shared at www.waggfuneralhome.com
