PRODGER, Kenneth Joseph Prodger

It is with deep love and gratitude that the family of Kenneth Joseph Prodger announces his passing at the age of 92. Born on June 1, 1933, in St. Catharines, Ontario, Ken lived a long and full life defined by devotion to family, hard work, and service to others.

A Life of Family and Dedication
Ken was the beloved son of William Victor Prodger and Dorothy Ethel (Thurman) and the cherished brother of Dorothy Joan, Gwendolyn Rae, Gordon Victor Herbert, and Roy William.
He married Veronica (Vonnie) MacPherson in 1954, with whom he had his first son, Brian Kenneth Prodger. In 1961, Ken married Carole Anne (Rose), and together they built a beautiful family with three sons: David Christopher, Stephen Michael, and Kenneth Jason. Ken was immensely proud of his grandchildren — Alec, Dana, Jackson, Mia, Tayla, Maya, and Jaime — each of whom brought him endless joy.

A Career of Service and Entrepreneurship
Ken’s professional life reflected his strong work ethic and leadership. He began his career delivering prescriptions and groceries by bicycle as a young boy in St. Catharines. He joined General Motors of Canada at the age of 16, where he spent over 26 years in roles spanning Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Human Resources.
In the mid-1970s, Ken embraced entrepreneurship as a Pizza Delight franchise owner, operating four successful locations throughout St. Catharines. Later, he and Carole owned and operated G.J.’s Restaurant in Dundas, Ontario — a beloved local spot for 16 years. His ability to connect with people and foster community made every endeavour a success.

A Passion for Community and Sports
Ken was an active community member throughout his life. His love of sports began early — from playing and managing softball teams in the St. Catharines Softball League to leading the McKinnon Macs to multiple provincial championships. His dedication to the game earned him the Manager of the Year (1964) and Mr. Softball (1973) honours, as well as an Outstanding Service Award from the Ontario Amateur Softball Association.
He also served as President of the St. Catharines Jr. B Falcons Hockey Team, President of the St. Catharines Business Men’s Association, and volunteered with organizations such as the Children’s Aid Society, The Hope Centre in Welland, and at local golf clubs — always giving his time to uplift others.

A Life Rich in Music and Memories
From his early days as a boy soprano trained by his father, Ken’s love of music was lifelong. His singing at St. Thomas’ Anglican Church and local festivals were cherished memories that carried through generations.
Ken lived in many communities across Southern Ontario, eventually splitting his time between Welland, Ontario, and Parrish, Florida, where he and Carole enjoyed their retirement surrounded by friends and sunshine.  For the past 5 years, he and Carole lived in Kelowna, B.C. where they enjoyed their time at Summerwood Retirement Resort and staying close to family.

A Legacy of Love
Ken will be remembered for his warmth, generosity and never-ending smile — a man who valued family above all, and who found joy in helping others succeed. His life was an example of hard work, loyalty, and quiet strength.
He leaves behind a lasting legacy through his children, grandchildren, and the countless lives he touched through friendship, mentorship, and community spirit.
