RAMALHO, Maria Chris Ramalho
January 1, 1942 - December 2, 2025
Maria Faustina “Chris” Ramalho (nΓ©e Salema), passed away peacefully on December 2, 2025, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario, after a recent diagnosis of cancer. She was just shy of her 84th birthday. Born in Vila Franca do Campo, Sao Miguel Acores, she immigrated to Canada in 1961, married in 1963 and lived a life marked by devotion to family, faith, and community.
Maria was predeceased by her beloved husband Antonio in 2019. Together, they built a life rooted in love and family values. Maria and Antonio married in 1963 at St. Joseph Church, a place that would remain central to Mariaβs spiritual and social life. Their marriage was one of commitment, respect and mutual support.
Maria will be deeply missed by her three daughters and sons-in-law: Susan and Wayne Lampman, Cathy and Christopher Wozny, and Debra and Rene Bucek. Mariaβs legacy continues through her six cherished grandchildren: Ryann (Eric), Alex, Cullen, Olivia, Dante, and Sasha. Her warmth and presence will also be missed by her brother Joe (Mary) Salema; sister Lilia (Ken) Shepherd; sister-in-law Lourdes Ramalho; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and an incredible circle of friends.
A woman of many talents and fierce strength, Maria found joy in the simple yet meaningful pleasures of life. Gardening, sewing and crocheting allowed her creativity to flourish. Her handcrafted pieces are treasured mementos that have been generously shared over the years.
As a devout Catholic, Mariaβs faith was a guiding light throughout her life. A longtime member of St. Joseph Church in Grimsby, she not only worshipped there but also contributed to its community spirit by volunteering in the making of pierogis with fellow parishioners and by crocheting scarves and hats for those in need.
Maria’s home was known for its welcoming atmosphereβa reflection of her warm heart and generous spirit. Whether hosting family gatherings or sharing stories over coffee with friends, she created spaces where others felt seen and valued.
Her passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who knew her, yet the memories she created with her sense of humor and jovial personality will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to share in her journey.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the team at St. Peterβs Hospital. The grace, compassion, and empathy shown by everyone involved in Mariaβs care were exemplary and provided the greatest blessing during an incredibly difficult journey.
May her memory be a blessing and a reminder of a life lived with grace, faith, and love. “Life, Life!β
