RIMELL, Barbara Jean Rimell

Born September 30, 1939, in New Westminster, British Columbia, passed away on November 14, 2025. She lived a life marked by love, resilience, and devotion to her family.

Barb was the eldest of three girls, born to Roy and Gladys Sloan. She attended Semiahmoo High School in White Rock, where she met her high school sweetheart, Phil. They married in 1957 and together raised three children.

Barb worked as a school secretary in Surrey, British Columbia, before moving to Kelowna in 1977, where she became a legal secretary and ended her career with Kimmitt & Co. She made friends at various law firms she worked for and maintained these relationships for many years through her fun times with the “Show & Tell” girls.

In 1967, Barb and Phil, along with her parents, acquired a property at Green Lake in the Cariboo. Phil built a cabin there, which became a four-seasons playground for the family. Barb cherished spending summers at the lake with her kids, creating lasting memories that continue to bring joy to her family.

After retiring early, Barb and Phil set off in their newly acquired motorhome, travelling throughout B.C. and the western United States. They eventually made Yuma, Arizona, their winter home, where they enjoyed the sunny weather for the next 20 years and formed lifelong friendships. Barb loved to travel and made several trips with her sisters to different parts of Canada, which they lovingly called “Sister’s” week.

Barb is survived by her children Diane (Gerry) Facciotti, Dan Rimell, and Kathy (Tony) Russo; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Phil, and her 2 sisters, Betty & Peggy. She will be remembered for her gentle nature, warm demeanour, intelligence, and grace—qualities that touched everyone who knew her.

Barb’s life was defined by devotion to family, enduring friendships, and a spirit of adventure. From summers at Green Lake to winters in Yuma, she created a legacy of cherished memories and lasting bonds. Though she will be deeply missed, her love and example live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A private Celebration of Life has been held.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to BC Children’s Hospital, or Central Okanagan Hospice House, in memory of Barbara.
