MEZZAVILLA, Rita Odilia (Michelin) Mezzavilla Obituary

MEZZAVILLA, Rita Odilia (nee Michelin) – (August 1, 1925 – December 27, 2015) – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Rita, at home surrounded by family on Sunday, December 27, 2015.

Survived by her sons, Denis (Sherry) Mezzavilla, and John (Abbey) Mezzavilla, sister-in-law Yolle (George) Torlone of Richmond Hill, granddaughters, Leigh (Ryan) McDonald of Aberfoyle, Erin (Rob) Desson of Niagara Falls, Eve Mezzavilla, grandson Derek Mezzavilla of St. Catharines, and great grandson, Reid McDonald. Also, survived by many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents, Elisa (1994) and Santo Michelin (1953); husband, Luigi (1996), and brother, Etore (Terry) Michelin (2005).

Born in San Quirino, Udine, Italy, she and her family immigrated to Canada in 1933 and resided in Timmins where she met and married Luigi in 1946. They moved south to the Toronto area in 1947, finally settled in St. Catharines where they resided for many years on Lorne Avenue. Rita and Luigi became Canadian Citizens in 1958.

Rita was an avid homemaker with special interests in canning, gardening, and enjoying the ladies group at St. Thomas Aquinas. For the last four years Rita resided and enjoyed the company of many friends at Mount Carmel Retirement Home on Yates Street.

Rita will be resting at Pleasantview Funeral Home, Fonthill where family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Wednesday, December 30th from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Vigil Prayers for Rita will be celebrated in the funeral home at 7 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 316 Queenston Street, St. Catharines on Thursday, December 31st at 10 a.m. Rite of Committal will follow.
