After a courageous battle with cancer, Dr. Robert Taylor passed away, surrounded by family at the Ottawa General Hospital.

 

Predeceased by his loving parents, John and Florence Taylor.

 

Loving husband of the late Susan Taylor.

 

Beloved father of Simon (Natalie) and Susanna (Tyler); and proud grandfather to Anthony and Alyssa.

 

Bob will be especially missed by his sister, Patricia Taylor.

 

He is also survived and remembered by his family in Scotland. Bob earned his PhD in history from McMaster University.

 

He moved from Oakville to Ottawa in 1970, where he worked in the Canadian Archives. In 1982, Bob worked with a team on the formation of a new Canadian Constitution.

 

Bob’s work included organizing forms of Canadian art in various museums and the National Gallery of Canada.

 

After retiring, Bob enjoyed books, watching old movies, travel and his art work. He was especially proud of his refugee work, where he helped many families relocate to safety in Canada.

 

For this work, he was awarded the Sovereign’ Medal for Volunteers given by the Governor General at Rideau Hall in 2016.

 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, from 6-8 p.m. at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod St., Ottawa.  A memorial service will be held at Trinity Anglican Church, 1230 Bank St., Ottawa, on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at 2 p.m.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ottawa Food Bank, the Canadian Cancer Society or to a Charity of Your Choic.
