WINSHIP, Robert George –
February 17, 1936 – October 20, 2023
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Winship.
His daughter, Caroline, brought Robert from the hospital back to his second home, Chartwell Guildwood, where he passed away peacefully on Friday, October 20, 2023.
Robert is survived by his ex-wife, Gayle; and his daughter, Caroline.
He was a loving, doting, grandpa to Ava Regina Macheras; and a loving “uncle” to Jennifer and Stephanie.
Robert will also be remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Outside his immediate family, he touched many lives. Robert was predeceased by his parents, (Ada) Eunice and George Winship. Born and raised in Etobicoke where he was a lifelong resident, Robert had many achievements.
After completing the journalism program at Ryerson, he became a writer and eventually held the position of Director of Corporate Communications/Public Relations for two major Canadian engineering companies: SNC Lavalin and Hatch. Robert believed strongly in contributing to higher education and public service.
A service will be held at St. George’s on-The-Hill, 4600 Dundas Street West, Etobicoke, on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at St. George’s on-The-Hill cemetery. Reception to follow at St. James Gate Pub, 5140 Dundas Street West, Etobicoke.
After a life altering diagnosis of dementia, Robert found home and family at Chartwell Guildwood. The family would like to thank the staff there for their care and genuine love.
