RUDDY, Patricia Jeanette Ruddy
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our
wife and mother, Patricia Jeanette Ruddy (née Dier), 76, of Oshawa, Ontario, who passed
away on October 8 at her home in Oshawa, surrounded in spirit by the family she
loved so dearly.
Born in Oshawa, Patricia, “Pat” to many—grew up with a ready smile and a steady
kindness that never left her. She studied at Queen’s University, earning a Bachelor of
Arts, and carried her curiosity and love of learning into every season of her life. She
married Robert John Ruddy, and together they built a warm, welcoming home in
Oshawa, raising their sons, William Leslie Ruddy, Michael Robert Andrew Ruddy
and Matthew David Jonathan Ruddy.
A homemaker by vocation and a natural caretaker by heart, Patricia poured her gifts
into creating spaces where people felt seen and cherished. She also volunteered as a
Special Education Teacher for the Durham District School Board and worked for the
family business, Ruddy Electric. She loved being at the cottage, and she had a
special joy for arranging things just so—renovating, refreshing corners, and bringing
comfort through thoughtful order. At home and at the cottage, she was, as her family
says, a goddess of order—everything in its place, made beautiful by her touch.
Guided by her Christian faith, Patricia lived gently and generously. She was positive,
upbeat, warm, and caring, a loving mother who was also delighted in taking care of
her grandchildren. She threw wonderful parties and loved to entertain friends and
family, filling the house with laughter and good food. Her generosity in
gifting—always finding the perfect thing, wrapped with care—was one more way she
said “I love you.”
Patricia is predeceased by her mother, Bertha Mae Nuttall (Dier), and by her son,
Michael Robert Andrew Ruddy. She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert; her
sons William and Matthew; and her dear grandchildren, William Robert, Jonathan
Kyle and Sara-Anne Eve, who will carry forward her grace, humour, and steadfast love.

Family and friends will gather for visitation on Friday, October 24, from 4:00–8:00
p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa A service in celebration of Patricia’s life will be held on Saturday, October 25 at 1:00 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home.
Cremation will then take place.
Flowers may be sent to Armstrong Funeral Home, and donations to the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Patricia leaves us a legacy of gentle strength, faithful love, and everyday joy. May we
honour her by keeping a tidy corner, setting one more place at the table, and welcoming
others with the same warmth she offered so freely.
