RUSSELL, Allen Douglas Russell

Al Russell passed away peacefully at home on May 10, 2025, at the age of 92. He was the beloved husband of the late Marion Russell, who predeceased him in 2013.

Loving father of Paul (Kathy Caldwell), David (Cheryle), and Janet (Greg McFarlane). Cherished “Bompa” of Brennan, Kristen, Eric, Thomas, Samuel, Benjamin (Shannon), and Sydney. Proud “great Bompa” to Eleanor and Owen. He was predeceased by his siblings Arlie, Jim, and Bob, and will be fondly remembered by his brother-in-law Bob Everist.

Al was a chartered accountant and partner at Clarkson Gordon & Co., which later became Ernst & Young. He retired on his 60th birthday in 1992, enjoying over 30 years of retirement filled with tennis, hiking in the Adirondacks, reading murder mysteries, and cherished time at the family cottage in Haliburton.

His final years were joyfully spent at Amica on the Avenue in North Toronto, where he appreciated the companionship, meals, activities, and musicals. The family extends their gratitude to the Amica staff for enriching Al’s life.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

In honour of Al’s love of books and advocacy for community access, donations to the Toronto Public Library Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
