SALMON, Marilyn Louise Salmon

Marilyn Salmon, a longtime member of the Oshawa community, died peacefully on Monday, September 29, 2025 at Hope Street Terrace in Port Hope, ON.

Born on December 8, 1935, and raised in Oshawa, Marilyn spent many summers with her father, Edward Charles, and mother, Viola Bennett, as well as her older brother, Edward Ross, at their family cottage built by father and son on Lake Dalrymple. There she fished, swam, and fed the chipmunks that ruled the property.

Marilyn spent her career as an assistant to staff at The Hospital for Sick Children, living in Toronto and traveling widely with friends.  A knowledgeable hockey fan, Marilyn rooted for her Toronto Maple Leafs, and one of her enduring memories was the Leafs’ victory over the Montreal Canadiens for the 1967 Stanley Cup.

After retiring, she returned to Oshawa, where she lived with her parents at Faith Place.  She and her mother never missed televised Leaf and Blue Jay games. Marilyn never lost hope that the Leafs would once again bring home a Stanley Cup.  Marilyn provided loving care to her parents before they passed away.  Quiet and unassuming, she had a lifelong devotion to dogs, especially her beloved companion, Teddy.

Marilyn was predeceased by her parents and brother.  She is survived by her nieces and nephews—Jacqueline Salmon, Ann Salmon Anderman, Margaret Salmon, Edward Ross Salmon, Patricia Salmon, Christian Salmon, Sharon Swarbrick, and John Swarbrick—together with their partners and children.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hope Street Terrace in Port Hope for their supportive environment and dedicated care of Marilyn in her final years.  Funeral arrangements entrusted to McINTOSH-ANDERSON-KELLAM FUNERAL HOME LTD., 152 King St. E., Oshawa (905-433-5558).

A private family interment will be held at Mount Lawn Cemetery, Whitby.  Online condolences may be shared at makfuneralhome.com
