FIDLER, Samual ‘Duncan’ Fidler Obituary
FIDLER, Samual ‘Duncan’ – (1934 – 2015) Duncan Fidler, born in London, ON June 19, 1934 died in Welland, Ontario on December 25th, 2015 as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident.
Duncan is survived by his wife of 52 years, Claire (née Stephenson) Fidler; daughter, Tara Fidler (Andrew Jeffrey); sons, Stephen and Jeffrey (Chris) Fidler; beloved grandson, Patrick Fidler; brothers-in-law, Robert Benn and Gerry Marsden; five nephews, a grand nephew and a grand niece.
Duncan was predeceased by his parents, William and Agnes Fidler; sister, Catherine “Cae” Marsden; parents-in-law, Margaret and Alfred Stephenson; sisters-in-law, Helen and Peggy Stephenson and Nancy Benn.
Duncan earned an Honours BA from UWO and BEd and MA (History) degrees from U of T. He taught history at Thornhill and King City (department head) Secondary Schools in York County. He was Vice Principal at Montcalm, Sir Adam Beck, G. A. Wheable, and A. B. Lucas Secondary Schools in London.
Duncan was actively involved in Riverside United Church as an elder, chairman, member of the board of trustees. He was a long-time member, past-president and Paul Harris Fellow Plus One of the Rotary Club of London East. He was Past President of the Retired Teachers of Ontario (RTO) District 8, and Past President of the London Board of Education Retirees Association. He was past co-President of the Castle Club of London. He was a member of the Women’s Canadian Club.
Duncan was an avid reader, historian, philosopher, traveller, and gardener. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Orchestra London and Theatre London.
The family would like to thank the staff at Welland Hospital for their compassionate care.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in London at a later date.
