SANCA, Zofia “Sophia” Sanca

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dear friend, Zofia “Sophia” Sanca (nee Wojton) after a courageous battle with cancer. Sofia died peacefully with her friends at her side. She was predeceased by her husband Bill (1992), her son Stephen (2005), and her dear friend Henry Krasinkiewcz (2022); also by her parents and brother Stanislaw. Left to grieve are Sofia’s sister Wladia Lisowski, brothers Kazimierz and Josef, and their families, all of Poland and many friends in Corunna, Sarnia, and Toronto. Sofia immigrated to Canada as a very young woman. She met and married Bill and they built a life with their son Stephen. Sofia was a proud Canadian and also cherished her Polish heritage. She retired from Gliss after years of service. She was a woman of great faith, participating fully in the church choir at Queen of Peace and CWL. Sofia loved to sing and dance, having spent many happy hours with Henry at Sarnia Ballroom dances and at the Polish Hall. She loved to cook; dinners at her home were always a Polish feast! She tended her vegetable and flower gardens with loving care. Friends and neighbours were delighted with her bounty of veggies that she shared. Sofia was an admirable lady with extraordinary strength and fortitude. We thank all of her dedicated caregivers at Bluewater Health and St. Joseph’s Hospice. The Mass of Resurrection will be held at Queen of Peace Church, 566 Rosedale Ave, Sarnia, on Monday, January 26, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery. Rosary will be recited prior to Mass. Instead of flowers, donations may be made to Queen of Peace Church, Bluewater Health, or St. Joseph’s Hospice (cheques only at the funeral home, please, or donate directly to charity).
