SANDRE, Lidia Sandre

Passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the the age of 98. Reunited with her husband Antonio (Tony) (2007). Loving mother to Attilio (Til) and wife Terry, and late Susy and husband Steven Levy. Dear nonna to Nicole (Lucas), Danielle (Colby), Andrea (Will), and late Alex. Bis-Nonna to Harper, Reese and Cole. Dear sister of Elena Fabbro in Italy. Lidia will be missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada and Italy.

Lidia’s life was one of love, resilience, and devotion to family. In 1946, she left her home in Italy to begin a new chapter in Cambridge, England, where she married her beloved husband, Tony. Their daughter Susy was born there, and in 1951 the young family embarked on another journey, immigrating to Canada.

Lidia worked as a cook at the Cleary Auditorium, where she was part of a spirited group of Italian women. Though the days were long—often 12 to 14 hours—she cherished the friendships and camaraderie they shared.

In 1972, when Tony’s work transferred the family to Hawkesbury, Ontario, Lidia embraced the challenge of living near the Quebec border and learned French. After 10 years, she was delighted to return to Windsor, where she could once again be close to family and to her cherished parish, St. Angela Church.

A woman of boundless energy, Lidia poured her heart into her garden, her kitchen, and her family. She took great joy in spending time with her grandchildren, traveling back to Italy, cruising, and visiting Florida and California.

Lidia will be remembered for her warmth, strength, and generosity. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
