Murray SarahMURRAY, Sarah (Sally) MacHendry Syms –  (November 9, 1938 to September 26, 2015)

It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of Sarah MacHendry Murray (Syms), at the age of 76, who succumbed after a short battle with cancer on September 26, 2015.

Predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Clifford Christopher Murray (Sept 23, 2015), Sarah leaves behind her beloved children, Lynne and Scott. Sarah was a devoted and adoring grandmother to Lauren and Nolan.

Along with Grandpa, Sarah and her “kiddies” spent many hours at the park, on the slides, hunting “beasties,” and laughing at silly jokes. Sarah delighted in sharing tales of her adventures with her grandchildren, beaming with pride and a twinkle in her blue eyes.

Born in London, England, to Annie Grace (Stockan) and William MacHendry, spending her childhood in England with her siblings, nieces and nephews before moving to Canada as a teenager upon the passing of her beloved mother. Sarah joins her parents and siblings, Mary McAhonic, Ann Clarkson, John Syms, Michael Syms, and her cherished baby brother, Anthony (Frank) Syms, who have predeceased her.

Sarah is survived many nieces and nephews, in Canada and the United Kingdom, and will be fondly remembered as their Aunt Sally.

A believer that a smile, kind word or act, could make a difference and brighten someone’s day, Sarah will be forever remembered as a kind, charitable and gracious lady. Her many talents, ability to face any challenge or hardship with grace, her quick wit, awe inspiring knowledge, wicked sense of humour and beautiful smile are in the hearts and memories of those who are fortunate to have known her.

Thank you to the dedicated staff at the Walker Cancer Clinic, who helped mum with professionalism and compassion while respecting that she wished to control her own journey.

At her wish, Sarah has foregone formal services, preferring to be quietly celebrated by her family and friends.

In lieu of gifts or flowers, Sarah would appreciate that those who knew her express an act of kindness to a stranger, a friend, family member, in her memory.
