SAYE, Joan Viola Syer Saye
With love and sadness, we announce that Joan passed away at Joseph Brant Hospital with her loving family by her side, on Monday, December 1, 2025, at the age of 92.
Joan is reunited with her late husband, Doug. She will be dearly missed by her children, Linda (Warren), Heather (Ray), Sue (Lloyd – deceased), Kim (Mike), Cyndi, Karyn (Rick), and Doug (Kerry), her grandchildren, Ryan, Michael, Clayton, Keltie (Jordan), Kyle, Erin (Camiel), Krista (Mike), Kris, Steven, Jonathan, Katelyn, Tyler, Thomas, Julianna, Richelle, and Evan, her great grandchildren, Bobbie, Cooper, Brady, Lyla, Rylee, Kennedy, Nelly and Lucy, Sophie and Levi.

Joan’s path in life began when she met her husband Doug at a bus stop in Toronto. They fell in love and she immediately became a mother to her 7 children. Joan went on to raise a large and very close family who cherished their Sunday dinner’s and family events which Joan always hosted and catered. Her best times were spent with her family gathered around her home, sharing stories, laughing and eating. Joan was not only a mother to her own children, a grandmother to her special grandchildren but to her entire community. She was the go to baby sitter for the local moms, neighbours and teachers as well. Joan was a girl guide and brownie leader for many years. She also coached baseball. Joan supported Doug’s desire to race cars. This included the arranging of the camping for the whole family as well as spending the week leading up to the event cooking meals to feed not only her own family for the weekend but everyone else at the race too. She was extremely generous with her time and her love. Joan was an amazing woman who taught our family so many valuable lessons. We hope to continue to carry on her kind and loving way and her family traditions in our own growing families.

As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Park Avenue Manor Retirement Home, the staff, nurses and doctors at Joseph Brant Hospital, specifically in 6 South, and the Palliative Care Team for their care and compassion. Donations in memory of Joan toΒ Joseph Brant HospitalΒ would be greatly appreciated by the family.
