January 27, 1939 - November 6, 2025
SCARFO, Rosa Scarfo

Passed away peacefully in St. Joseph’s Hospital on Thursday, November 6, 2025 with her family by her side.

Rosa was born on January 27, 1939 in Siderno, Calabria, Italy. She met the love of her life, Domenico Scarfo and they were married in 1958, when she was just 19 years old. The newlyweds came to Canada, and settled down in Fort William before starting their family. A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Rosa dedicated her life to caring for her family, and creating a warm and welcoming home. Family was at the heart of everything Rosa did. Her happiest moments were those spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, evident by the smile on her face whenever any one of them entered the room. She was truly selfless, always putting the needs and happiness of her loved ones before her own.

Rosa found great joy in gardening and could truly grow anything. She also enjoyed going to play the slot machines on occasion, and cooking. Her home was the center of countless family gatherings filled with laughter, stories, and the delicious aroma of her homemade Italian dishes.

Rosa will be deeply missed by her children Nella Lane, Peter Scarfo and Robert (Corinne) Scarfo; grandchildren Andrea, Matteo and Olivia as well as her great-grandchildren Samantha, Lexie, Abby and Noah. She is also survived by her siblings, Nick (Caterina) Topino in Albany, NY, Maria (Antonio) Trimboli in Italy, Vince (Viola) Topino in Italy, and Attilio (Rosa) Romano in Australia as well as numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives in Canada, Italy, USA and Australia.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Domenico; parents Giuseppe and Angela Topino; siblings Rocco (Rosina) Topino, Sam (Franca) Topino, Frank (Josephine) Topino, Angelina (Campagna), Tony (Viola) Topino and twin sisters (in infancy) as well as numerous in-laws and other relatives.

The family would like to thank Rosa’s support worker Liz as well as the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice and Dr. Fredericksen for all of the care and comfort provided to Mom.
