It is with great sadness that the family of Gilbert “Bert” Schalk announces his passing on June 24th, 2025, at Strathmere Lodge at the age of 82.

Beloved husband of the late Janice Schalk (2019). Loving father of Laura Martin (Mark Monteith) and the late Kristen McNeil (2023). Proud grandfather of Devin (Scott) Burdett, the late Ally Martin (2021), and Jesse Monteith; Spencer (Ayla Webb), Morgan, and Connor Byrne. Cherished great-grandfather of Harvey, Blake, and Porter.

Survived by his siblings Corry, Peter “Pim”, Nancy, Maria (Rene), and Ina. Predeceased by his siblings Pieter, Anthony (Tom), Nell, and Anne. Predeceased by his parents Gerda and Frank Schalk. Bert will be fondly remembered by his extended family and friends.

In keeping with Bert’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at DENNING’S OF STRATHROY on Friday, June 27th, 2025, from 6–8 p.m. A Memorial Service will take place at DENNING’S on Saturday, June 28th, 2025, at 11 a.m. Interment in Poplar Hill Cemetery.
