SCHLOTZ , Astrid Schlotz

Astrid Scholtz (née Brutschin) passed away peacefully at her home in Newcastle, Ontario, on Wednesday, August 6, at the age of 87. Born on May 16, 1938, in Gersbach, Germany, her life was marked by love, courage, and adventure.

Astrid had a radiant spark — a lively spirit full of curiosity, optimism, and resilience. At just 23 years old, she set off for Canada to join Freddie, her future husband, embracing the unknown with courage and excitement. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in love, hard work, and shared adventure.

She was a woman of many talents and passions. For over 40 years, Astrid worked as a seamstress and patternmaker with care and precision. Her inquisitive nature led her to explore hands-on skills like electrical work, plumbing, and mechanics — she was never afraid to take on a challenge.

She also had a deep love for nature and the outdoors, spending countless joyful hours at her beloved cottage in the Haliburton Highlands and exploring new places across North America and Europe.

Affectionately known as “Momma,” Astrid is survived by her two daughters, Susie (Willy) and Caroline. “Oma” will be deeply missed by her grandchildren: Mark (Brittney), Christian, and Sage (Emmanuel).

She is now reunited with her beloved husband Freddie (Friedhelm) to continue their adventures together in eternity. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Her ashes will be spread where her heart was happiest.
