SCOTT, Velma Joyce Scott
June 5, 1931 - March 5, 2026
Passed away peacefully at her home in Toronto, Ontario, on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the age of 94. Well-loved by everyone who knew her, she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on June 5, 1931, in the parish of St. Ann, Jamaica, Peggy was from her earliest days a woman of curiosity, courage and determination. She attended Westwood High School in Trelawny and carried with her an adventurous spirit that would influence her remarkable life.
In 1965 Peggy emigrated first to New York City where she briefly modelled, before arriving in Montreal, Canada. There, she was part of the close-knit Caribbean community, returning to work at the Bank of Nova Scotia before joining the CBC. In 1966 she moved to Toronto with the CBC, where she would work for the next two decades. She later moved into management at Centenary Hospital until her retirement in 1996.
In the following years, she travelled extensively with friends and family, visiting Scandinavia, Russia, South Africa, China, Egypt and many destinations across Europe — embracing each new place with openness and curiosity.
Peggy is survived by her beloved daughter, Shelly-Ann Scott, and her brother, Walter H. Scott, wife Keisha, and children Astrid, Alex, Liam and Sarah, and many relatives and friends.
She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, adventure and grace. May she rest in power and in peace.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday June 6, 2026 at Highland Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either North York General Hospital or Sick Kids Hospital.
