Passed away peacefully with family by her side at the P.R.H.C. on Friday March 6, 2026. Entering her 75th year, her life and devotion of caring for others – as a loving wife, a compassionate nurse, a devoted mother, and a proud grandmother whose love and strength shaped the family she cherished. Maureen enjoyed a faithful 48-year career in nursing at St. Joseph’s R.C. Hospital, Peterborough Civic Hospital and P.R.H.C., and was dedicated to the family farm where she would continue to work after every shift at the hospital. Maureen was born an identical twin and one of 9 loving children to the late Raymond & Anna (Clancy) English of Indian River. Marrying her high school sweetheart, Robert “Bobby” Sedgwick, the couple had four children, Kelly Armstrong (Glen), Ryan Sedgwick (Kendra), Greg Sedgwick (Sonya) and Rob Sedgwick (Janice). Maureen adored and cherished her time with her 10 grandchildren, Cody & Kelsie Armstrong, Lydia, Lillianna, Gracyn, Chloe, Reese, Calvin, David and Thomas Sedgwick. Maureen (Moe, Lou, Sedgy, Mother Hubbard, Momma Sedge) treasured family gatherings and always looked forward to celebrating Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving with her siblings, Marie Hobbins (Brian), Joan Kitunen (Wayne), Anne Crowder (Dean), Karen MacDonald (Glen), Ken English (Loretta), Michelle Wright (Bruce), Kevin English (Julie), Al English (Mary) and the Sedgwick family Shirley Trennum (Dave), Linda Easton (Kevin), the late Barb Byers (Jim) and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her nephew Kevin MacDonald. Cremation has taken place. Friends and relatives may call at THE HENDREN FUNERAL HOMES, NORWOOD CHAPEL, 36 Queen Street, Norwood on Wednesday March 11, 2026 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday March 12, 2026 at 11:00 AM from St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 4186 Highway 7, Norwood. A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #300, Norwood. Memorial donations may be made to VON Canada (Peterborough, Victoria, Haliburton Branch) for the Havelock Branch, or the P.R.H.C. as expressions of sympathy and may be made by contacting the funeral home at www.hendrenfuneralhome.com or by calling 705-639-5322.
