SHANNON, Laura Diana Mae Shannon

Well done, Mom.
An incredible life well-lived, full of gratitude and love, came to a peaceful end on June 2, 2025, when Laura Diana Mae Shannon, 90, passed away in the home she built with Dad 70 years ago. Surrounded by her loving children—Alison, Vicki, Dian, Kary, and Brian—Laura left this world exactly as she wished: at home, in peace, and deeply loved.

Born October 2, 1934, in Port Arthur, Ontario, to Mary and Charles LaPlante, Laura was the 8th of 13 children. After her mother’s death, she spent years in St. Joseph Indian Residential School and vowed her children would never have to beg for love. And they never did.

Laura married the love of her life, George Shannon, after a destined meeting at a Finlandia Club dance. Their 54 years together were full of laughter, adventure, and love. They built a vibrant home on Belton Road and later traveled and lived across Canada before returning to Thunder Bay.

Known for her spirited heart, Laura danced, volunteered, tackled marathons and zip lines, and even became a university student at 80. Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and countless friends who were touched by her joy, kindness, and courage.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Boys and Girls Club of Thunder Bay would be gratefully appreciated.

Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Sargent and Son Funeral Directors.
