SHARRON , Larry Gerald Sharron

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Larry Gerald Sharron of Long Sault, Ontario. Larry passed away peacefully at Carefor Hospice in Cornwall, Ontario on August 11th at age 80.

Born on February 10th, 1945 in Botwood, Newfoundland, he was a devoted husband to Lorraine Sharron and a loving father to his two sons, Jonathan and Matthew, their partners Alissa and Lisa, and grandfather to Jackson and Harrison. He was the youngest child of Pearl and Ruleph Sharron and was predeceased by all his siblings (Vera, Reginald, Pamela, Ronald, and Lindy).

From his earliest days to his final years, Larry’s boyish curiosity drove him to chase adventure and fun at every turn. His youth was spent fishing and enjoying the rugged Newfoundland outdoors with his brothers, sisters, and Boy Scouts friends. He was truly a lifelong ambassador of Newfoundland culture, telling stories of “The Rock” whenever he could.

During his adult years, he enjoyed expansive road trips and global travel with his wife Lorraine—often in rented cars—“driving until they ran out of road.” He sought new experiences by meeting locals, often off the beaten path, and even getting haircuts around the world to better understand and experience different cultures.

Closer to home, Larry loved entertaining, playing guitar, skiing, sailing, boating, motorcycling, flying (he earned his pilot’s license), cooking, gardening, and even trips to the dump with friends—always with his trusty trailer in tow.

Larry spent 33 years with Environment Canada’s Weather Department, beginning in Gander and Goose Bay, Newfoundland. He appeared on CBC as the 6 o’clock news weatherman in St. John’s and served in Cape Dyer, Nunavut, contributing to DEW (Distant Early Warning) weather reports. Later, he relocated to Ottawa and eventually settled in Cornwall, wrapping up his career with 10 years at the Operating Engineers Training Institute of Ontario in Morrisburg.

He was deeply involved in his community, volunteering with the Cancer Society, Big Brothers & Sisters, Meals on Wheels, Beek Lindsay Senior’s Residence, Trinity Anglican Church, Centre 105 Outreach, and the Masonic Lodge F&AM.

Heartfelt thanks to the extended Sharron and Coates families from coast to coast and to dear friends including Typhanny Lashway, Mathieu Sarda and their daughters Elizabeth and Vivianne, as well as his loyal neighbour and furry friend, Tucker Patterson.

Special recognition is extended to the staff of Bayshore and Carefor Hospice for their excellent care and compassion.

Visitation will be held at Wilson’s Funeral Home (822 Pitt Street, Cornwall) on Friday, August 22nd (2–4 pm and 7–9 pm), followed by a funeral service at Trinity Anglican Church, Cornwall on Saturday, August 23rd at 11 am.

Memorial donations can be made to Centre 105 Outreach and Carefor Hospice Cornwall—two causes close to Larry’s heart.

Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Wilson Funeral Home.
