SHURTLIFF , James Shurtliff

Peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa on Monday, August 18, 2025, James Shurtliff passed away in his 90th year.

Beloved husband of 63 years to the late Elaine Shurtliff. Loving father of Douglas (Shelley), Michael, and Thomas (Nadeem). Proud grandfather of four and great-grandfather of eight. He is predeceased by his parents, Myles and Frances, and his siblings Myles, Ron, and Marg.

Jim enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a technician with Bell Canada, followed by an even longer retirement filled with lawn bowling, duplicate bridge, and an endless supply of jokes—most of which he found funnier than anyone else.

He will be fondly remembered by his good friend Bev, whose daily phone calls brightened his days and provided heartfelt companionship.

The family extends sincere gratitude to the MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying) service for allowing Jim to pass peacefully on his own terms. Special thanks to his favourite nurse, Thi, for her compassionate care in his final days, as well as the entire ACE unit at the Queensway Carleton Hospital.

In keeping with Jim’s wishes, private family services will be held.
