SIEGNER, Phyllis Siegner

February 6, 1942 - April 9, 2026
SIEGNER, Phyllis Siegner
She opened His loving arms to Phyllis Siegner (née Berberich) on Thursday, April 9, at South Bruce Grey Health Centre. She died peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by the love of her family.

Her steadfast devotion to her faith, family, and friends defined her life.

Born February 6, 1942, to Alphonse and Rita Berberich (née Zettler), Phyllis is survived by her brother Jerome Berberich; sisters Marg Weber and Rose (Ron) Wilhelm; daughters Dawn Ann Hannah (Greg), Vicki Merrifield (Stephen), Kim Siegner, and Alison Luedke (Owen); daughter-in-law Margaret Siegner (née Wright); sister-in-law Erleen Martin; and her grandchildren: Rachel and Sarah Hannah; Mackenzie, Marissa, and Brady Merrifield; Gweneth, Alina, Miles, and Evangeline Schnurr; Alicia Wright; and Dylan and Nathan Luedke. She was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband of 57 years, William A. Siegner; her sons, Joseph and William E. Siegner; her parents, Alphonse and Rita (nee Zettler) Berberich; her sister Carol Mullen; sister-in-law Marlene Berberich; and brothers-in-law Ralph Martin, Paul Weber, and Bill Mullen.

Phyllis met her husband, Bill, at church when he playfully splashed her with holy water, a lighthearted beginning to a lifelong commitment. They later settled on the Siegner farm, where they raised their family alongside beef cattle.

Phyllis loved children and had a deep passion for education. She completed Teachers’ College in 1962 and later earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986. A lifelong learner, she was dedicated to religious education, family studies, literacy, special education, and the arts. She taught at both elementary and high school levels, led school Masses with her sister Marg Weber, directed school plays, and taught Home Economics, sharing her love of cooking and sewing.

A gifted artist, Phyllis especially enjoyed watercolor and charcoal, and expressed her creativity through sewing, quilting, needlepoint, crocheting, and gardening—always with a project on the go. A faithful servant, she lived her faith as a Eucharistic minister, reader, and active member of several prayer groups. She especially cherished her time with the prayer group at Holy Family Parish and the friendships formed there. She was also a lifetime member of the CWL and the Southline Women’s Institute.

Special thanks to her cousin, Jeanie Headley, for her friendship and support; to the staff at Brucelea Haven for providing a welcoming home; and to the staff at South Bruce Grey Health Centre – Walkerton for their compassionate care.

She was beautiful inside and out and will always be remembered as the Queen of our hearts.
