SIGRIST, Arno Adolf Sigrist

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Arno Adolf Sigrist on May 13, 2025, in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 93. He is survived by his beloved Joyce (Docksteader) of 65 years, daughters Julia Ross (Kim), Susan (Mark Hubbard), and grandchildren Stephanie Ross, Melissa and Daniel Hubbard.

Arno is also survived by cousins Reiner and Dieter (Klärli) Selz, sisters-in-law Pat Pilon and Cheryl Docksteader, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Frida (Sulzmann) and Adolf of Switzerland, his sister Margot (Bertold) Ende, and numerous extended family members and friends.

Born and raised in Basel, Switzerland, Arno completed his apprenticeship in radio and television electronics in 1950. He immigrated to Canada in 1957, ultimately settling in Toronto, where he joined Muzak, Chum Satellite Business Music, and Stingray360. His career spanned from technical work to sales and consulting, culminating in retirement in 2005, though he continued to mentor in the industry for years after.

Arno never lost his Swiss heritage. He was a proud and active member of the Swiss Club Toronto, serving as President of the Men’s Section and the Canadysli Band. He received numerous accolades including Swiss Citizen of the Year and was the longest-serving personal member of the Swiss Canadian Chamber of Commerce. Arno’s enthusiasm for drumming, especially in Fasnacht events, his commitment to organizing cultural activities, and his beloved Kaffi Klatsch gatherings reflected his joyous spirit.

A practical and kind-hearted man, Arno also served as President of his condo board, earning trust for his fairness and leadership. He remained engaged, inquisitive, and deeply connected to his family and community until his final days.

The family thanks the medical teams at Sunnybrook and North York General Hospitals for their care. In lieu of flowers, donations to Sunnybrook Hospital Foundation, North York General Hospital Foundation, or a charity of your choice are appreciated.

Celebration of Life plans are underway.
